In the years before World War One, fear of the impending conflict with Germany was widespread. Although Jesus would never have led warriors into any violent act, his inclusion with two Old Testament warriors reflected the notion that God was on Our Side. Ironically, the German people were also mostly Christian.

The flag Jesus holds is that of St George, the famous English warrior saint. Two PEI Regimental Crests reinforce the military theme.
