Among five panels he completed in St. Matthew’s, Andre Rault apparently decided to use himself as the model for St. James (who was a close friend of Jesus). Andre Rault made nearly 200 windows in more than 15 Regina churches, and visited the city annually for many years, beginning in 1949. Other artists who made self-portraits as saints include William Morris (Holy Trinity Sloane Square, London and Christ Church, Vancouver), and Michelangelo (Sistine Chapel).
