The thousands of gold seekers who flocked to the Yukon during the 1898 Gold Rush were eager to communicate with home. Most were Americans, and Canada proudly operated a mail service through the sever mountain wilderness between Alaska and Dawson City,Yukon.

The intrepid postman stands with his dog sled, whip and team of Huskies. The letters RM (Royal Mail) are visible on his left arm. The Northern Lights glow above the mountains.
