This whimsical window, based on a German picture of 1882, was a favorite of John Allward. It won an award at the 1906 Manitoba Agricultural Industrial Exhibition, after which Allward reluctantly sold the piece to the owner of the Brandon house. Allward went on to help found the Manitoba Artists Society before eventually moving to the United States. His cousin Walter S. Allward was a noted sculptor, famous for the design of the Canadian Vimy Memorial in France.
