Count Berthold Von Imhoff (1868-1939) was born in Germany, where he studied classical and religious painting at the Art Academy of Berlin. He settled in remote St. Walburg, Saskatchewan around 1914 and painted religious works at his studio there until his death in 1939. Probably Saskatchewan’s most famous religious artist, Imhoff left hundreds of attractive paintings–often of angels—in many Saskatchewan buildings. His original paintings in Assumption Church may be of greater artistic value than the stained glass windows.
