Jesus’ metaphor, “Follow me and I will make you fishers of men,” has resonated with Christians from the beginning.

There are nine figures in the main section: left to right, Peter and Andrew, the fishermen on their boat; a mysterious small figure who does not match the scale of the rest of the scene; a blond-haired saint, probably John; Jesus beckoning; two bearded men in elegant turbans looking on; and the top of an older man’s head (and a child, not visible here).
