The blonde male head above Christ is odd – not merely out of scale – but not identifiable in Genesis. Could it represent a man of 1533 – the Artist, perhaps? His gaze crosses to the blonde female face in the Right panel.

As “the pivotal figure of human history”, Christ is the largest and most carefully rendered of all the figures. He shows an unusually sympathetic human warmth.
