In this brutal scene, a large group of terrified people in a cage are tormented by a redcap and two yellow accomplices. The reference to the Holocaust is unmistakable: the cruel raised arm of the yellow torturer in the lower corner, beside a face that might be Hitler’s.
The panel is acknowledgement of what Christians did to Jews, and many others, during the Nazi period.

This is one of about 15 masterful scenes within the two large windows by the noted German artist Egon Stratmann (1936 to present).
